Groundwork gets donation

LAWRENCE — Groundwork Lawrence received a $10,000 donation from the Feaster Five Road Races, organized by the Merrimack Valley Striders in 2023.

The donation was presented by Robin Condon, president, and Carolyn Burt, chair of development and finance for Merrimack Valley Striders to Lesly Melendez, executive director of Groundwork Lawrence.

Founded in 1979, the Merrimack Valley Striders’ mission is to encourage and enhance running at all levels. This significant contribution will be used to complete Eaton Street access to the Merrimack River Trail.

When the downtown portion of the Merrimack River Trail is completed, it will greatly enhance local and regional connectivity between existing and proposed paths. The trail meanders along the banks of the river through wooded areas, parks, and forests, providing scenic and accessible routes for the community.

“The Eaton Street access project creates new opportunities for the public to explore the trails, and wetlands, and experience the beauty of the Merrimack River,” Burt said. “The Merrimack Valley Striders are honored to support this important renovation and expand access to the Merrimack River Trail project.”

Official at Groundwork Lawrence said this donation not only helps complete a crucial section of the Merrimack River Trail, but also significantly enhances the quality of life for the residents of Lawrence.
